iTUB supplies Gjögur with new ECO tubs

October 9, 2024

iTUB has entered into an partnership with Gjögur, one of Iceland’s most respected and long-standing commercial fishing companies, with a proud history dating back to 1946. Gjögur has chosen to implement iTUB’s latest innovation—the 460L ECO tubs—into their operations, marking a significant step toward sustainability and efficiency in the fishing industry. These cutting-edge ECO tubs were recently showcased at the IceFish exhibition in Iceland.

Our new 460L ECO tubs are designed to be lighter and more durable, weighing just 42 kg—8 kg less than our older models. This reduced weight offers clear logistical benefits, including easier handling and improved transportation efficiency. Despite their lighter design, these tubs are built to last an impressive 12-15 years, maintaining their strength and reliability over time. Once they reach the end of their lifespan, the tubs are fully recyclable, contributing to a circular economy. In fact, the new ECO tubs are partially made from recycled materials, including iTUB fishing tubs that were produced as far back as 2009-2010, giving them a second life in the industry.

Gjögur’s head of processing, Ægir Jóhannesson, has shared his enthusiasm for the ECO tubs, particularly praising their durability and robust construction. Made from high-quality PE plastic, the tubs are designed to withstand the rigors of commercial fishing environments. Ægir also highlighted one of the key benefits of the tubs: even if they become damaged or punctured during use, their weight remains unchanged after being repaired. This is crucial for Gjögur, as it ensures that no fish weight is lost during measurements—a factor that can have a significant impact on both profitability and end-of-year fishing quotas. This ability to maintain weight accuracy even in challenging conditions makes the ECO tubs a valuable asset for fishing companies like Gjögur.

Moreover, the ECO tubs are designed with repairability in mind, further extending their lifespan and ensuring they remain a part of the circular economy. This focus on durability, recyclability, and repairability aligns perfectly with iTUB’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. By partnering with Gjögur, we are not only providing a high-performance solution for their fishing operations but also reinforcing our shared commitment to reducing environmental impact.

At iTUB, we are incredibly proud to support Gjögur in their efforts to modernize and enhance their fishing operations. This partnership represents a significant milestone for both companies as we work together to drive innovation and sustainability in the fishing industry. We look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration and are excited about the positive impact these ECO tubs will have on Gjögur’s operations in the coming years.
