iTUB Unveils the New 460-Litre ECO Tub: Advancing Sustainability in the Fishing Industry

At the Icelandic Seafood Expo, iTUB proudly introduced its latest innovation: the ECO 460-litre tub. Building on the proven success of the previous 460L PE tub, which iTUB has utilized since 2010 with outstanding results, the new ECO tub marks a significant step forward in sustainable fishing practices. iTUB currently employs 60,000 PE tubs across the commercial fishing industry throughout Europe.

Key features of the new ECO tub include:

– Lighter Weight: Weighing just 42 kg, the ECO tub is lighter than its predecessor, which weighed 50 kg.
– Made by Saeplast: Produced in Dalvik, Iceland, by Saeplast, a manufacturer with over 40 years of expertise in creating strong, durable tubs.
– Renewable Energy Production: Saeplast has transitioned to renewable energy sources for the rotomolding process, replacing oil-based methods and setting a new industry standard.
– Recycled Materials: The new tubs are made using recycled plastic from older tubs, supporting a circular economy and reducing waste.
– Improved Handling: The lighter design enhances ease and safety during handling, both at sea and in processing plants.
– Increased Capacity: Thanks to its lighter weight and optimized materials, the ECO tub holds 5% more fish than the previous version.
– Sustainable Transport: The lighter design also reduces the amount of plastic transported, further increasing sustainability over the tub’s 12-15 year lifespan.

The new ECO tub retains the strength and durability of its predecessor while being crafted from 100% recyclable PE material. Once these tubs reach the end of their lifecycle, they will be recycled into new tubs, reinforcing iTUB’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

With the introduction of the ECO 460-litre tub, iTUB continues to lead the way in innovation and sustainability, setting new standards for the commercial fishing industry.
